Red Diaries Fellini Forward by Campari

Federico Fellini was an iconic film director, but sadly, he cannot live forever. So, Campari Red Diaries decided to test if his creative talent could be kept alive by artificial intelligence. The result? The short film and documentary "Red Diaries Fellini Forward by Campari". It premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 7th and will be shown at the New York Film Festival before being released on demand in certain markets.

Despite three people being credited as directors - Zackary Canepari, Drea Cooper and Maximilian Niemann - the real creative force behind the movie was GPT-2, a system developed by the innovation production studio UNIT9.

Introducing the Synthetic Scriptwriter

Before the movie was made, a script was needed. So UNIT9 created a custom tool to create the script, based on OpenAI's GPT-2. GPT-3 hadn't been released yet, so GPT-2 was used instead. This tool reads all of Fellini's scripts, breaking them down into the style, context, and themes. Then it composed an entirely new script, which is pretty impressive.
