Speak

Speak is a service with the goal of helping more individuals become proficient in different languages, beginning with English. The company has already launched in East Asia, particularly South Korea, and has almost 100,000 paying customers. Speak is building an AI tutor that can hold conversational exchanges with learners on a variety of topics, providing immediate feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.

Speak is making use of the Whisper API to power a brand new AI speaking companion product and rapidly bring it to the rest of the world. Whisper's accuracy that is on par with humans enables true open-ended conversational practice and very precise feedback.

Speak was funded by the OpenAI Startup Fund.
