Deepmind Sparrow AI
A ChatGPT Competitor from Google
About Deepmind Sparrow AI
The CEO of Deepmind, Demis Hassabis, has recently suggested to Time Magazine that Deepmind's chatbot Sparrow will soon enter a "private beta" stage. This is significant because, up until now, Deepmind has mainly been a research institute, creating technologies which Google then applies to its customer products.
Sparrow is based on Deepmind's Chinchilla language model, which has fewer parameters than OpenAI's largest models, but has been trained on plenty of data. This language model was released in April 2022 and managed to outperform GPT-3 in language benchmarks. However, ChatGPT is based on the more up-to-date GPT version 3.5.
It is likely that Sparrow will achieve similar or better results than ChatGPT, and Google also has more powerful language models such as PaLM in its toolkit.
