DALL·E 2 by OpenAI

OpenAI has developed a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, DALL·E 2, which makes it easier to create and edit photorealistic digital images. The AI can take a description in natural language and turn it into a realistic image or artwork. DALL·E 2 works by using a process referred to as 'diffusion', which starts with a pattern of random dots and then slowly changes this pattern to create an image when certain aspects of the image are recognised.

OpenAI has now released the DALL-E API in public beta, which allows developers to add the AI to their applications and products. A few companies, such as Cala, a fashion design platform, and Mixtiles, which prints online photos on lightweight decorative tiles, have already tested the API for their own needs.

Different resolutions have different costs for using the DALL-E 2 API. For images of 1024×1024, the cost is $0.02 per image; 512×512 images are $0.018 per image; and 256×256 images are $0.016 per image. Companies that work with OpenAI's enterprise team may be able to take advantage of volume discounts.
